The calculators store nothing
Poll Check, Change Check and the Sample Planner work from the page address. The site keeps no copy of what you type there in its database. The web server does keep an ordinary access log, as all web servers do (network address, time and the full page address), and on these pages the page address holds the numbers and labels you typed, so they are in that log too. Leave anything private out of the labels.
Poll Books
A Poll Book stores its name, your tracks and the polls you enter. Its private key is never stored: only a one-way fingerprint of it (a SHA-256 hash), from which the key cannot be worked out. Your browser holds the key in a secure, HttpOnly cookie, and your private link carries it after the # sign, which browsers do not send to servers. No email address, name or account is asked for.
To limit abuse, the site counts new Poll Books and link tries per day per network address. It stores only a salted fingerprint of the address, and deletes those counts after three days.
Deleting
Delete a track or the whole Poll Book from the Poll Book page at any time. Poll Books not opened for 400 days are deleted automatically. Database backups are kept for 14 days and then deleted.
No tracking cookies
No tracking cookies and no analytics services. Fonts, scripts and styles all come from this site. The only outside service any page loads is the banner ad from adengine.us on the public pages, described under Advertising; it also counts one page view per page as a daily total.
Advertising
The public pages of Approval Rating (home, Poll Check, Change Check, Sample Planner, The Guide and Pricing) show one banner ad from AdEngine (adengine.us), the small ad network run by WeldonPC, the company behind this site. For now the ads are for WeldonPC's own services. Poll Book pages, this page, the terms and error pages show no ad. The ad never changes a number on the page.
To show an ad, your browser loads a script from adengine.us, asks it for one banner, loads the banner image, and reports once that the page was viewed and once that the banner was shown. Like any website, adengine.us receives your network address, your browser type and the address of this site with those requests. It gets only the site's address, never a calculator's page address with your numbers and labels in it.
- No cookies, no profile. AdEngine sets no cookies, gives you no ID and does not track you from site to site.
- How your network address is used. adengine.us looks up the approximate city for your address in a location database kept on its own server (nothing is sent to anyone else), so that ads meant for one area are shown only there. It also uses the address to count each ad view or click only once and to leave out robots and WeldonPC's own office traffic. The address is not stored with the counts; the temporary entries made from it expire within six hours and are cleared from the server within two days.
- What is kept. Daily totals only: page views for this site, and views and clicks for each ad. The adengine.us web server also keeps a standard access log (network address, time, address requested, referring site, browser) for security; it is deleted on a rolling schedule.
- Clicking an ad passes through adengine.us, which counts the click, and then opens the advertiser's site, which has its own privacy policy.
- Nothing about you is sold or shared.
Payments
Payments are not switched on yet. When they are, PayPal will handle payment details; this site would keep only the subscription reference, plan and end date.
